WELCOME TO SALE MOOR…

12 Sep

WELCOME!

Welcome to the Sale Moor website. Thanks for dropping by and we hope that you find your visit fun and informative. We’ll be keeping the site updated with features and news from Sale Moor and the campaign over the coming months.

Your Labour Representative in the ward for 2011-2012 is Mike Freeman. He’s an ex-policeman and has lived in Sale for nearly 30 years. To find out more about Mike click here.

If you’d like to get involved in the campaign there’s lots to do so we’d be delighted to hear from you. There’s plenty of different activities that you can help with, and we’d love to hear what talents you may to offer. It’s not just about door knocking and posting leaflets. If you’d like to volunteer then you can email Mike at mike.freeman at traffordlabour.org.uk. Mike is joining Jo Bennett and Phil Gratrix, who are already Labour councillors in Sale Moor.

We’ve already started visiting homes in the ward to discover the issues that matter most to you and. If there’s anything that you’d like to discuss again, you can email using the address above. You can also follow the campaign on Twitter @LabourSaleMoor.

DROP THE BILL

4 Mar

Before the Coalition Government was elected in May 2010, David Cameron pledged that there would be no top down reorganisation of the NHS. The is pledge now lies in tatters after the biggest shake-up in the history of the NHS. Many of the groups representing healthcare professionals, such as the BMA, have raised huge concerns over Andrew Lansley’s plans. Sadly, despite the very vocal opposition from both patients and health workers in the NHS, the health secretary and David Cameron refuses to listen.

Mike doesn’t just care about issues that happen in Sale Moor, he cares about national issues that affect lives locally. Last week Andy Burnham, the Labour Shadow Health Secretary was in Trafford, the birth place of the NHS, as part of his “Drop The Bill” campaign. Andy told local residents and media “The NHS should be above politics. It belongs to every one.”

Mike said ” I hear so many terrible tales whilst I’m on the doorstep from people who’s experience of the NHS is getting worse since the cuts kicked in. If this bill gets through it will only get worse. I’m dismayed that the Tories are slowly but surely privatising the health service.Trafford is the birthplace of the NHS and if we fight we can still stop this dreadful bill.”

Mike used to be a police officer and he’s been putting his walking experience to good use. He’s out in the ward at least once a week and has now visited nearly every house. Here’s Mike with George Devlin, who’s standing in Davyhulme West and Aidan who runs Trafford Young Labour. They must be fast walkers to keep up….

OUT & ABOUT

30 Jan

Mike was again out this weekend, helped by a team of people that included fellow councillor Jo Bennett and local MP for the area Paul Goggins. Again the issue of the car park being proposed at Sale Water park for the Metrolink station came up on the doorstep. Mike also got to meet local community stalwart Mrs Rawlinson who said, after meeting Mike, “It’s made my Saturday”.

LATEST CAMPAIGNING

26 Jan

Mike was out again last week, knocking on doors in the Worthington Rd area. A lot of people raised the issue of the supermarket planned for the village centre. There was also concern over plans for Metrolink building space for 300 cars at Sale Water park. We know. from talking to you all that both of these issues are of great concern and there are several meetings scheduled over the coming weeks which will discuss the options to the people of Sale Moor. We’ll let you know as soon as we have some news. We’d love to hear from you in the meantime so, if you have any thoughts on the car park or the new supermarket, let us know.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas to everyone. Thanks for all your support this year. We hope that you have a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

LEAFLETS FOR SALE MOOR

21 Nov

Last Saturday saw a Trafford labour team delivering leaflets across the Sale Moor ward. By the end of Saturday afternoon most of the ward had been done, which is no surprise given the speed that ex-copper Mike Freeman walks at. He’s certainly one of the fastest walking candidates standing this year!

Delivering the leaflets is just one of the ways that the Trafford Labour part is using to contact voters. If you’ve had one of the leaflets this weekend you’ll find Mike’s contact details on the back, so feel free to get in touch of there’s anything that you want to discuss or that we can help with.

Mike, an ex-copper, may have the fastest walk in Trafford!

OUT & ABOUT

6 Nov

There’s nothing like getting on the streets to meet people as you can learn so much about what’s going on in the local area. We’re very grateful to everyone who stops and chats with us. Last week, whilst we were in and around the village centre, we caught up with some people who always seem willing to get involved with what’s happening locally. If you see us out and about please feel free to come and have a chat with us.

It’s amazing what you discover when you’re  out and about. There are so many little problems that can cause bigger trouble, some of them quite odd. Whilst we were walking around last week a guy from the hairdressers on James St. told us about a problem with pigeons in the buildings. It’s a tricky issue but one that needs sorting out and we’re now working to find a solution.

CALM DOWN…

6 Nov

Sale Moor is a lively village centre with many shops and businesses. It’s also a major through route linking Sale to the M60 and M60 aswell as roads into Manchester. As a result the traffic can be very heavy which brings danger to the areas. The Sale Moor Labour team are constantly monitoring traffic flow and examining ways to make the roads safer for pedestrians. It’s particularly dangerous on the road system just before the Legh Arms. We’d welcome your comments and and any experience you have of trying to cross from one carriageway to the other whilst cars are speeding through. At the moment there’s a sign warning drivers to go slower, but this doesn’t seem to be enough.
